Building the Ecosystem: Lessons from First Things First Porter County

Note: This event takes place online

What does it take to build a community where organizations work together—not simply alongside one another—to improve outcomes for children and families?

Join City Rising and First Things First Porter County for a conversation about what collective impact looks like in practice.

First Things First serves as a backbone organization bringing together community partners across sectors to strengthen the prenatal-to-early-childhood ecosystem in Porter County. Rather than focusing on a single program or intervention, the organization works to build shared priorities, strengthen relationships, connect existing resources, and create a system of support that is easier for families to navigate.

During this conversation, First Things First leaders will share what they have learned about building and sustaining this kind of work—including the opportunities, tensions, experiments, and lessons that come with serving as a backbone organization.

We'll explore a question that reaches far beyond Porter County: What does it take to create the conditions for an entire community to get better at working together?

Who Should Attend: This conversation is designed for nonprofit and community leaders, funders, public health and early childhood professionals, educators, backbone organizations, collective impact practitioners, and anyone working on complex challenges that no single organization can solve alone.
