Indianapolis Just Got a Live Eviction Data Dashboard
Access to timely, public information is essential for communities seeking to understand and respond to complex social challenges. That's why City Rising is proud to announce the launch of the new Indianapolis / Marion County Eviction Data Dashboard, developed in partnership with the Indy Housing Project and Anymouse.
The dashboard provides near real-time information about eviction filings across Marion County, offering residents, advocates, researchers, service providers, journalists, and policymakers a new tool for understanding housing instability in Indianapolis. Drawing from publicly available court records, the dashboard updates multiple times each week and allows users to explore eviction trends by neighborhood, ZIP code, census tract, and court, while also providing historical comparisons and downloadable datasets.
This project emerged in response to a growing need for accessible, up-to-date housing data. As existing public reporting tools became unavailable or increasingly outdated, communities lost access to critical information about one of the most significant drivers of housing instability. The new dashboard helps fill that gap by making eviction data more transparent, timely, and actionable.
City Rising served as the project's convener and contributed to project management, communications strategy, and public interest technology design. The technical infrastructure and data systems were developed by Kristina Hartley of Anymouse in collaboration with Dr. Patricia Basile, Assistant Professor of Geography at Indiana University Bloomington and creator of the Indy Housing Project.
The Indianapolis / Marion County Eviction Data Dashboard represents more than a data visualization tool. It is an example of how community-centered research, public interest technology, and cross-sector collaboration can create practical infrastructure that helps communities better understand and respond to urgent social issues.
In the coming months, the project team plans to expand the dashboard's capabilities, including additional analyses related to property ownership patterns and landlord activity. We also hope this work can serve as a model for other communities seeking to develop their own local eviction monitoring and public information systems.
